Location: Liberal Jewellery, 805 Dundas St. W.

Dayna Gedney was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario and is a 2013 graduate of the Sheridan College Furniture Craft and Design Program. Dayna’s work focuses on rational structural design and the interaction of geometric shapes. Functionality and simplicity of form is central to her designs. Often the details are what excite Dayna about her design process, using transitional lines and repetition to create unity in a piece. Dayna is focused on creating well-made and thoughtfully designed furniture, developing work that will last aesthetically as well as physically.

Purdy + Koch were designed as a small footstool or ottoman, based on visual cues from Finn Juhl’ s Poet Sofa. The form evolved for adaptability of use while retaining comfortability and function. The development of the pieces became an exercise in structure, production process and leg form. The difference in leg shape required emphasis on the proportions of the upholstered seat to the leg, and structural exploration through the connection of the legs and interior form. Each iteration creates a more cohesive design, better expressing the qualities of comfort, simple form and tailored upholstery. (Walnut and upholstery)
