Location: Sovereign State, 827 Dundas St. W.

Laura Langford has a passion for art, design and creative construction. She is a graduate of Dalhousie University with a diploma in Costume Studies, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a degree in Fine Arts, and most recently Sheridan College’s Furniture program. She has combined knowledge and experience from all three learning environments to create her own unique design aesthetic. Laura strives to explore the synergies between different materials and is fascinated with the interaction of texture, structure, and utility. Laura is pursuing a career in furniture, object, and surface design. Attentive to aesthetic detail as well as overall style, her goal is to produce objects and spaces that balance form and function.

Lounge Chair No.137 revisits Laura’s Invite lounge chair, designed and created in 2011 during her final year of Furniture at Sheridan College in response to an assignment to make a solid wood chair that was comfortable. Laura’s original design was inspired by the concept of nesting or curling up; Lounge Chair No.137 refines this idea. The clean, elegant lines of the leather seat and back compliment the curves of the human form, allowing the chair to envelop its user. (Soap-finished white oak and leather)
