Talia Silva - 3/8

Talia Silva | 3/8
Location: Barbarella, 891 Dundas St. W.

Talia Silva is a multi-disciplinary designer/artist based in Toronto, Canada. She received a BDes, Major in Environmental Design from OCAD in 2008. Fascinated by geometry and its relationship to nature and organisms, she is drawn to the nature’s contrasting qualities of frailness and solidity. Her approach to work is playful, pensive and eclectic.

3/8 are cast porcelain suspension pendants lights. Each one is an exploration in surface treatment, which is informed by the interplay of divots and apertures as geometric pattern and organic texture. By embracing the concept of deterioration as not only necessary but natural, these fixtures highlight the contrasts and discrepancies of delicate decay. The interior or exterior of each pendant is embellished with hand-drilled divots and apertures which create a visually arresting texture, enhanced by light and shadow. 3/8 were displayed during design week 2013 at Capacity and have been featured in Azure magazine May 2013 and October 2013.
