Chari Cohen - Maple, Ginko & Birch Pendant Lights

Chari Cohen | Maple, Ginko & Birch Pendant Lights
Location: Saving Grace, 907 Dundas St. W.

Chari Cohen is a Toronto-based ceramic artist. She received her ceramic education from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne Australia majoring in Ceramics and continued her studies at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. Her work lies between the two worlds of functional ceramics and sculpture which reflect the wonders found in the wilderness and in the seams where humans and nature interact. For the past five years Chari has participated in exhibitions and sold her work at various galleries in Ontario. Recently she completed a large installation for a show at the Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo.

Maple, Ginko & Birch Pendant Lights reflect Cohen’s interest in the seams where art, craft and design meet. Using nature as her “found object” inspiration, she makes molds of fallen trees found in the woodlands of Ontario and transforms them into translucent porcelain clay pendant lights. The lamps are crisp and luminous during the day and emit a soft warm light during the night. Each piece is handcrafted in her Toronto studio. The variation in the bark pattern creates different lighting effects. (Slipcast porcelain)
